The Position

 

As the Senior Lead within NLP Data Engineering, you will lead and oversee our data foundation and data engineering activities. You will be the overall responsible for our NLP data factory and data foundation to support Scientific Intelligence and relevant parts of Digital Science & Innovation with external published literature and patents, who will oversee the design, development, and maintenance of data infrastructure and pipelines within the scope of Scientific Intelligence NLP activities.

As part of your role, you will also:
•    Design and implement robust, scalable and secure data architectures 
•    Establish and orchestrate coding standards, and data engineering best practices, together with evaluating and recommending new tools, frameworks and technologies 
•    Lead data engineering team, allocate tasks, and resolve technical challenges 
•    Work closely with the data engineers, NLP scientists and information scientists to ensure a robust data foundation to support the needs of our research scientist 
•    Collaborate with research scientists to understand business needs to accelerate decision making 

It is an individual contributor role; however, it entails project and team management, including managing multiple projects timelines, deliverables and team resources. An innovation and continuous improvement mindset are needed to be aligned with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices. 

The role is based out of London, with 2-3 days of office presence required. 

 

Qualifications

 

We are searching for a highly communicative and motivated individual with stakeholder management skills who holds a Masters’ degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related fields and has several years of industry experience, preferably in biotech and/or pharma, together with experience in machine learning pipelines and working with AI/ML team.

Main valued skills are:
•    Solid experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML)
•    Hands-on experience with data and solutions engineering of NLP data products and pipelines working with multimodal and/or multilingual language models 
•    Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
•    Profound knowledge of Deep Learning methods applied to NLP and strong experience with NLP and ML technologies 
•    Demonstrated strong track record of developing and applying NLP solutions on large text, preferably literature data
•    Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale data engineering projects
•    Proven experience leading data-, MLOps-, and/or LLMOps engineers collaborating with cross-functional teams 

 

About the Department

 

You will join 18 dedicated colleagues within the Novo Nordisk Scientific Intelligence department, a global team which offers a centralised hub of external information as well as NLP tools and technologies to extract scientific insights to research scientists in the Research & Early Development area of Novo Nordisk.

Our purpose is to provide modern digital solutions to the research organisation and to ensure that research scientists have seamless access to quality information sources, state of the art technologies and professional information research tools supporting their needs in idea maturation, hypothesis validation, and increased disease and landscape understanding. 

Scientific Intelligence is a part of a research area, Data & Knowledge Discovery (DKD), established to provide a modern data and knowledge excellence, drive external collaborations and access to emerging technologies in the digital space of drug discovery.

Data & Knowledge Discovery (DKD) is part of Digital Science & Innovation (DSI), established to drive digitalisation across Research & Early Development. DSI participates in drug development projects across the value chain, from early discovery to pre-clinical development.
