The position
You'll be part of the Digital, Data & IT, Research Center China,
providing digital data technologies for Novo Nordisk R&ED
researchers, driving data-driven decisions and accelerating
breakthroughs in medicine.
The Senior Data/SW Engineer will
support R&ED scientists at our research site in Beijing with data
engineering technologies by either introducing / leveraging global
research informatics tools that you configure for local needs or by
creating and maintaining targeted digital applications. You will
achieve this by maintaining close contact with relevant R&ED
scientists such that you are able to understand their needs from a
digital data technology and help to translate those into requirements
while keeping FAIR data management aspects and the overall R&ED
strategy in mind. In addition, you will help R&ED scientists to
leverage these digital data technologies more effectively by providing
targeted user documentation and training. You will be part of Digital,
Data & IT team in Research Center China, consisting of colleagues
that are responsible for IT Infrastructure, Service Desk and IT
service management, Digital Research and lab solutions. On global
scale, you are expected to align with the similar roles in Denmark, UK
and the US to share best practices to stay aligned with the global
standard while being an expert on data sharing and engineering
regulations in the similar industry from China.
As a Senior Data/SW Engineer, you will have the opportunity to:
• be a key contributor to our Novo Nordisk Research Center China
digital initiatives to implement research informatics and data
solutions for R&ED scientists to improve the effectiveness of
data-driven decision making following the FAIR (findable, accessible,
interoperable, and reusable) principles.
• support Director -
head of DD&IT NNRCC as data engineering expert with demonstrated
experience in data engineering, including the design and
implementation of data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration
within IT infrastructure and digital data solutions.
• work in
close collaboration with R&ED scientists focusing on target
discovery at our Beijing site and support them to reach their research
goals with existing and future digital data technologies.
• contribute to NNRCC Architecture Implementation with the ability to learn and translate global data and architecture requirements into practical, scalable, and efficient implementations within the local IT infrastructure and software systems.
• navigate and master data Security and Compliance with
Understanding of data security best practices and compliance
standards, with the ability to implement these within the IT
infrastructure and software space.
• serve as point of contact
for our research data management solutions across target discovery
phases of the digital data technology life-cycle, in particular with
regards to requirement gathering, adaptation/configuration/operation
of solutions, and user documentation & training.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates
with the following qualifications:
Education: Master's degree in
computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field is
often required. A Ph.D. in a relevant field can be an added
advantage.
Experience: Several years of experience in data
engineering and data architecture, with a focus on implementing data
classification and the design of workable data flow solutions.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is
highly desirable. It is an advance with experience in life sciences,
medical device or the pharmaceutical industry.
Technical
Skills:
• Proficiency in data engineering tools and languages
such as SQL, Python, Java, or R.
• In-depth understanding of
data classification techniques and best practices for handling
sensitive data.
• Expertise in creating and optimizing data
pipelines and ETL processes.
• Strong knowledge of data
warehouse and data lake solutions.
• Familiarity with
cloud-based data technologies and services, including but not limited
to AWS Redshift, Azure Data Factory, etc.
• Experience with
architectural design and implementation of scalable and efficient data
systems.
• Data Modeling and Analysis: Proven experience in
data modeling, data analysis, and the ability to translate business
requirements into technical solutions.
• Collaboration and
Communication: Effective collaboration with global teams and local IT
stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of data solutions, as well
as clear communication of technical requirements and best practices.
Able to explain and deliver effective messages on data solutions to
non-data background stakeholders is a plus.
• Problem-Solving
Skills: Demonstrated ability to solve complex data engineering
challenges and optimize data processes for performance and
reliability.
• Understanding of Data Security: Knowledge of
data security best practices and the ability to implement security
measures within data solutions.
• Certifications: Industry
certifications such as AWS Certified Big Data - Specialty, Microsoft
Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, or Google Professional Data
Engineer can be advantageous.
• You have the ability to thrive
amidst ambiguity and discern the unexpressed problems and derived
requirements for digital solutions in a complex global research
organization.
• You are proactive, open-minded, curious to new
way of working and want to understand scientists' needs

Digital Data & IT division in Research Center China is
organizationally part of DD&IT global function which is part of
the Novo Nordisk Headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark. We are a team
physically situated in Beijing supporting our Research Center China
scientists and employees. Within DDIT, NNRCC we have broad knowledge
of our global digital landscape for Target Discovery Early Research
and in depth knowledge of NNRCC digital needs. The team members are
essential to ensure seamless IT operation to accelerate digitalization
across NNRCC and Target Discovery. We bring together individuals with
