Are you ready to take end-to-end ownership of a data value chain, from generation to analytics, and drive innovation in a leading global healthcare company? Novo Nordisk is looking for a Product Owner to strengthen the data foundation and analytics capabilities around our customer engagement activities in Japan. This unique role combines Product Owner responsibilities with hands-on technical implementation and supervision of engineering efforts. If you are passionate about leveraging technology to meet business goals and can combine technical expertise with excellent stakeholder management, then this might be the perfect opportunity for you to join our dynamic Data & Analytics team in the heart of Tokyo. Apply today for a life-changing career!

About the department
Data & Analytics is a newly established team formed by consolidating Data Management and Business Intelligence roles into a single, elevated department, reflecting Novo Nordisk Japan's growing investment in this area. You will work alongside our Data Platform Lead, who provides you and other Product Owners in the team with a state-of-the-art, Snowflake-based environment for developing, deploying, and maintaining high-value, often business-critical solutions for commercial stakeholders across the organization.

The position
As a Product Owner in the Data & Analytics Team, you will be responsible for maximizing the value of our data in the domain of Omnichannel Marketing, Digital Content, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM), driving high-impact, data-driven decision-making across our customer engagement activities. You will manage relationships and expectations with internal stakeholders who rely on your solutions, proactively engaging with them to understand business priorities and needs. Balancing strategic product ownership responsibilities with detailed technical work, you will propose solutions, prioritize your backlog, document requirements, and oversee implementation by a small engineering team – stepping in with hands-on support as needed. Example projects may include automating the consolidation and categorization of customer interactions across multiple channels into a single dataset or building a scoring system to segment customers according to a business-defined logic

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Enable data-driven decision making in our marketing efforts by overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of data and analytics products related to Omnichannel Marketing, Digital Content, and CRM – from design and maintenance to eventual deprecation.
  • Implement and maintain data products on our Snowflake-based Data Platform and analytics solutions using Power BI, through a combination of hands-on development and supervision of junior engineers, while adhering to engineering principles and best practices set by the Platform Lead.
  • Manage your own dedicated engineering capacity (1–2 FTE via vendors), while identifying bottlenecks, flagging resourcing risks, and negotiating timelines with stakeholders.
  • Manage relationships with internal customers (e.g., Marketing Analysts) and stakeholders (e.g., Marketing Management), ensuring their needs and priorities are accurately reflected in your backlog.
  • Translate business needs into clearly documented requirements, secure sign-off before development and verify implementation prior to facilitating user acceptance.
  • Maintain comprehensive product documentation, including definitions of dimensions and KPIs, and communicate impactful use-cases to proactively onboard users across the organization and ensure value realization.
  • Coordinate data ingestions and integrations between the Data Platform and our customer engagement ecosystem (including field force CRM, email marketing automation, event management solutions, and online customer portals).
  • Participate in business forums to discuss and define data domain concepts and KPIs.
  • Represent Japan’s efforts in your data domain to global stakeholders, engaging in alignment and knowledge-sharing to foster cohesive, integrated efforts across regions.

Qualifications

  • Business-level English and Japanese required. (JLPT N2 or above)
  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of combined experience as Data/Analytics/Software Engineer or Product Owner.
  • Experience managing engineering resources, whether as a line manager, team lead, or via a vendor relationship.
  • Familiarity with modern methodologies for software projects and operations (e.g., SAFe, DevOps).
  • Experience from Consulting or Data Science roles, or work in the Pharmaceutical industry is considered a plus.
  • Advanced SQL skills, knowledge of Python, and familiarity with the modern data stack (e.g., Snowflake, dbt, Apache Airflow, AWS, etc.).
  • Experience with business intelligence tools such as QlikSense or Power BI.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, presentation, and visualization skills.
  • A “business first” mindset and strong interest in the practical applications of data in your domain.
