Scientific Product Owner for Lab Informatics

The position
You'll be part of the Software Products Department in Data
Management and Informatics at Digital Science & Innovation (DSI),
providing digital solutions for Novo Nordisk R&ED researchers,
driving data-driven decisions and accelerating breakthroughs in
medicine.
The Scientific Product Owner will support R&ED
(research & early development) scientists at our research site in
Beijing with lab informatics solutions by either introducing /
leveraging global research informatics tools that are configured for
local needs or by creating and maintaining targeted digital
applications. In this role, you will be creating and continuously
refining a sound vision and roadmap for the lab informatics needs of
our Beijing research site. Via a ‘leading-by-example approach’ you
will guide an interdisciplinary product team, consisting of colleagues
from DSI and our global IT organization, and ensure the successful
realization of that vision. You will be expected to align with a
diverse set of stakeholders across R&ED, other product owners, and
to coordinate the delivery of digital solutions within an agile
solution delivery model and build-up and nurture strong relationships
across the R&ED organization.
As a Scientific Product Owner, you will have the opportunity
to:
• be a key contributor to our strategic initiative to
create a global research informatics and data management landscape for
R&ED scientists to improve the effectiveness of data-driven
decision making following the FAIR (findable, accessible,
interoperable, and reusable) principles.
• work in close
collaboration with R&ED scientists focussing on target discovery
at our Beijing site and support them to reach their research goals
with existing and future digital solutions.
• improve the effectiveness R&ED scientists at our Beijing
site by either introducing / leveraging global research informatics
tools (e.g., ELNs, entity registration, lab data automation &
workflow solutions, experiment result data management, data
visualisation and insights generation) that are configured for local
needs or by creating and maintaining targeted digital
applications.
• take on the liaison role with other product
owners / product teams who own the various global research IT
solutions to appropriately prioritize the needs of R&ED scientist
in Beijing in their respective product roadmaps and ensure the
transition into a coherent value-delivering digital solution
landscape.
• contribute with your technical and scientific
expertise to develop, configure, scout for, maintain & support
intuitive, value-delivering digital solutions.
• ensure excellent team dynamics within the product team you are
leading and the continuous delivery of value for R&ED
scientists.
• establish and nurture effective partnerships
with research IT specialists, IT and data experts, external
consultants, and digital solution vendors to ensure strategic
alignment, high engagement, and the effective prioritization of resources.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates
with the following qualifications:
• PhD or equivalent in Life Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, or
related fields . Alternatively, a BSc/MSc and 10+ years of experience
in life sciences, medical device or the pharmaceutical
industry.
• You have knowledge of the pharmaceutical research
IT domain and broad expertise ranging from research data management to
scientific digital solutions, including the ability to perform hands
on technical work.
• You are solution-oriented, a quick
learner, and open to explore and learn new digital tools & technologies.
• You have relevant technical knowledge to configure / administer
/ maintain (vendor or home-built) digital solutions.
• You
have solid knowledge in a scripting language, e.g., Python, R, or
similar to be able to transform / analyse various scientific
data.
• You have relevant knowledge of scientific software
development, data engineering, and DevOps in an agile environment.
• You are able to negotiate complex expectations with a structured
approach.
• You have been leading cross-functional scientific
software development teams in a high-paced, dynamic
environment.
• You have demonstrated the ability to generate
valuable and relevant ideas, create concepts and solutions based on
prioritized requests and existing digital solutions.
• You thrive amidst ambiguity and discern the unexpressed problems and underlying requirements for digital solutions in a complex global research organization.

Software Products Department is a part of Data Management and
Informatics of Digital Science & Innovation (DSI). Within the
Software Products Department, the Product Support & Training team
consists of digital experts with deep knowledge of our digital
landscape (from entity registration systems and sample inventories, to
electronic lab notebooks and further data capturing & management
systems) and diverse competencies and experiences. The team members
are essential to constantly improve and mature software solutions and
ensure their seamless operation to accelerate digitalization across
R&ED. While working in different product teams, focused on
delivery, the Product Support & Training team brings together
individuals with similar competencies and capabilities, allowing for
optimal talent development.
