The position

As Manager you will lead a team of 14 experienced Technicians and 1 Automation Engineer to contribute to the future API processes both in development and manufacturing. In Upstream Development we are responsible for designing and developing upstream processes throughout the non-clinical and clinical programs, ensuring fit for purpose processes, scalability and technical material for our pipeline API projects. 

You will oversee our new 4G facility, which plays an essential role in developing upstream processes by running fermentations in different scales in a seamless collaboration with scientists, testing scale up, new equipment and tech. projects as well as delivering technical material for further process development. The new facility consists of 2 -30-liter microbial fermenters and located in Bagsværd.

Furthermore, you will:

  • set direction for your team ensuring team deliveries, day-to-day operation in the facility incl. maintenance and equipment changes and upgrades.
  • communicating clearly and effectively both with the team and with your internal and external stakeholders.
  • place the well-being of your team at the centre of your attention, being supportive, and you use your skills to build a trustful working environment with high team performance.
  • keep yourself updated with the team’s tasks and projects, know when to get involved, and act when needed.

You will be part of a leadership team consisting of 1 Director, 4 Associate Managers and an Administrative Coordinator that meets frequently, support each other, and routinely use each other as sparring partners.

Qualifications

Ideally, you hold an MSc or PhD in chemical engineering, protein chemistry or related discipline. Furthermore, you will need:

  • experience within process development and pilot production (preferably from the pharma industry).
  • leadership experience and a natural desire to engage, develop and empower people .
  • ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both internal and external collaboration partners .
  • experience within facility management is considered an advantage.
  • fluency in written and spoken English .

About the department

As part of Novo Nordisk PSQIT organisation, Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) Development & Scaling makes a real difference for patients with chronic diseases across the world. We develop, manufacture and distribute drug candidates for clinical trials and have a strong culture with a “can do” mind-set.

Upstream Development is part of CMC API Development, where we develop robust and reliable API processes for the entire Novo Nordisk drug candidate portfolio.

In Upstream Development you will find 60 highly skilled and motivated colleagues divided into 4 teams. Our main responsibility is to develop and support upstream processes, fermentation and harvest, for clinical production of API in our in-house facilities or at Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs). We provide input to Clinical Trial Applications (CTA) but in our facilities and laboratories we work non-GMP, focusing on process understanding. We receive projects from our research organization and transfer them to our manufacturing organisation. We work in close collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
