Wages and benefits

Novo Nordisk's remuneration package is competitive and market-based. In Denmark, the basic salary constitutes around 87% of the full remuneration package.

In 2007 Novo Nordisk paid a total of 14,124 million Danish kroner in wages, salaries, pensions, social security contributions and other employee costs. See also the cash value distribution. Other benefits offered to all Novo Nordisk employees include:

  • Paid maternity/paternity leave
  • Pensions
  • Insurance
  • Employee shares
  • Development opportunities.

Additional benefits vary within the organisation and follow local labour market terms. In Denmark, where close to half of all employees are located, benefits include holiday houses, employee clubs and associations, annual summer party, Christmas present, social counselling, reimbursement of medical costs related to Novo Nordisk products, kindergarten, leisure and sports facilities, and canteens.

Trade unions

Novo Nordisk has formal agreements with trade unions at national levels in countries where this is possible. Through these agreements, the right to collective bargaining is recognised. In Denmark, the employees are organised in a number of company unions or clubs according to these categories:

  • Semi-skilled workers
  • Skilled workers
  • Salaried staff not including specialists, managers and vice presidents.
