Research and development commitment
Novo Nordisk has more than 80 years tradition of pioneering diabetes research and drug development, beginning with its early work on insulin production and therapy.
Going forward, Novo Nordisk will continue to invest heavily in research programmes committed to identifying better drugs for intervention and treatment of diabetes and other selected diseases.
Today, Novo Nordisk offers the industry's broadest range of diabetes discovery and development projects, and our investment in this area exceeds that of any other major pharmaceutical company.
Currently, our development pipeline is composed of insulin analogues, several oral anti-diabetic drugs targeting different aspects of diabetes pathophysiology, and a number of new user-friendly insulin delivery systems.
We are also heavily researching aspects of type 2 diabetes including appetite regulation, insulin secretion, beta cell stress, glucose production by the liver, insulin resistance, dyslipidaemia and physiological insulin therapy.
In addition to the development of products for diabetes, we have active programmes within haemostasis, growth disorders and fertility regulation. In basic research, our focus is on stem cell biology and diabetes immunity.
